System paralysis and the scramble for seats: Alexander Bastrykin and Anatoliy Razinkin have plunged the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee into personnel chaos
Behind the scenes at the Prosecutor General’s Office, there is talk that the agency will soon be leaving its First Deputy Prosecutor General, Anatoly Razinkin. A large group of high-ranking supporters of Razinkin see him as the new Chairman of the Investigative Committee. However, if this reshuffle does not work out, "fallback options" have been prepared.
Alexander Bastrykin himself has indeed been preparing a replacement for his position as head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (ICR) recently. He sees the head of the Main Military Investigative Directorate, Konstantin Korpousov, as his successor. However, it is clear that the decision on who will become the new Chairman of the ICR (if a resignation happens at all) will be made by Vladimir Putin. According to a source, besides Razinkin, the President of the Russian Federation has two other candidates. The source notes that Razinkin will definitely leave the Prosecutor General’s Office and will move on—if not to the ICR, then to another position.
A new position for Bastrykin was being prepared as early as 2025. Bastrykin was supposed to move into the chair of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, but he was "outmaneuvered" by Igor Krasnov. His candidacy was also considered for the post of Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy in the Northwestern Federal District. Meanwhile, the position of Chairman of the ICR was supposed to go to the current Minister of Justice, Konstantin Chuychenko. However, these personnel changes did not take place in 2025.
Now, once again, there is active talk within the Investigative Committee of saying goodbye to its chief, "in connection with his transfer to another job." And at the Prosecutor General’s Office, they are saying goodbye to Razinkin.
